I recently changed Shane's math curriculum from Math-U-See to Teaching Textbooks 4. Although I love Math-U-See, it is simply not a good fit for Shane at this point in time. Teaching Textbooks is computer based and designed specifically for independent learners. Last year, Shane completed three levels of Math-U-See in 9 months. So this summer, I decided to have him take math placement test and he scored at an upper 4th grade level. After much research and asking advice from my homeschool community we went with Teaching Textbooks 4. I must say, I was worried at first about him keeping up and really comprehending the lessons all on his own, but he is doing great. He took first test last Monday and he scored 96%. At first he was a little down because he did not score 100%, but I after explained to him that one, that he doing 4th grade math and secondly 96% was a great score, he was okay.
